YARRA FLATS
One of the earliest references to Yarra Flats as a place is that of Andrew Ross of Kangaroo Ground who wrote in his diary on 27 November 1853: "The Ryries leave Flats & sign petition."
Official recognition was given in 1856 when the Eltham District Road Board was formed and included Yarra Flats as part of its jurisdiction and in 1861 the Yarra Flats Post Office was gazetted.
