The following men and women who served at Gallipoli had a connection with the Yarra Glen district through birth, family and/or employment.
The men who gave their lives at Gallipoli
HUNT, Arthur George (1892-1915) Arthur was transferred to the Dardenelles on the 3 August and was killed only four days later on 7 August 1915. He is buried in the 7th Field Ambulance Cemetery.
HUTCHISON, James William (1887-1915) James was reported missing on the 13 May but it was later found that he had been killed in action and was buried on 8 May 1915 in the Redoubt Cemetery
McLEOD, Alexander John (1896-1915) Alexander was killed on 16 August 1915 and is buried in Shrapnel Valley Cemetery. SHILLITO, Donald Robert (1891-1915) Donald Shillito was listed as missing in action 25 April and later confirmed killed.

WILSON, John (Jack) Valentine (1890-1915) Jack Wilson was killed in action at Gallipoli on 3 Jun 1915. His body was found and buried by Captain Goodfellow and Major Waterhouse although the position of the grave is not known.
Those who survived Gallipoli but died in Europe
HUBBARD, Albert Clarence (1889-1916) Clarrie was killed aged 27 at Caterpillar Valley in the Somme on the 15 September 1916.
HUBBARD, Ernest Albert (1894-1917) Ernest landed in Gallipoli 5 August 1915. He was badly wounded at Lone Pine three days later and evacuated to Alexandria. He was killed at Passchendale 16 October 1917 and is buried at Tyne Cot, Belgium.
JELL, John (Jack) (1894-1917) Jack was with the M.E.F in Gallipoli from August to December 1915. He was killed in action on 3 October 1917 in Belgium.
McKINLEY, James (1895-1917) James reached Gallipoli in August 1915. He was killed in action near Arras, France in May 1917.
WAIGHT, Reginald Norman (1890-1916) Reg was posted with 14th Battalion to Gallipoli in November 1915. He was killed in action during the defence of Poizeres Ridge on 13 August 1916.
Those who served at Gallipoli and eventually returned home
BARRETT, Walter Lewis (1890-??) Walter was sent to Gallipoli on 15 May 1915 but fell ill a month later. He returned to Australia and was discharged in January 1916.
CHRISTENSEN, Neil (1888-1968) From August until mid-1916 Neil was at Gallipoli or one of the Middle East postings. Following service in France he returned to Australia on 24 August 1918.
COOK, Mark Bonshire (1891-1949) Mark was sent to Gallipoli on the 16 May 1915. He returned to Australia in July 1919.
DOWNER, Percy Field (1886-1951) Percy landed at ANZAC Cove on the afternoon of 25 April 1915. He left Egypt to return to Australia in 15 August 1915.
HUBBARD, Benjamin (1893-1981). Ben served with the 13th Light Horse Brigade and arrived in Cairo in May 1915. However he was returned to Melbourne with ill-health in August 1915 and was discharged in May 1916.
HUBBARD, Reginald Albert (1895-1976) Reg was at Lone Pine September to November 1915. He served in Egypt and returned to Australia in July 1919
JELL, Charles (1888-1973) Charles landed at ANZAC Cove on the afternoon of 25 April 1915. After service in France he returned to Australia in January 1919
KILBY, Leslie Alexander (1896-1970) He was taken on strength with the 22nd Battalion at Gallipoli. Early in December he was wounded and moved to Malta. Leslie returned to Australia in February 1917.
LACON, Vincent (1881-1975) Soon after arriving in the Middle East he was posted to Gallipoli. Vincent returned to Australia in March 1919
LYONS, Frederick Henry (1892-1972) He was in Gallipoli from April to August 1915. He returned to Australia in 1918.
MORRIS, Roy Whitworth (1894-1981) Roy was at Gallipoli in December 1915. After service in France he returned to Australia in April 1918
MUIR, George Benjamin (1893-1948) George served with the M.E.F. on Gallipoli from August to December 1915. After serving in France and Belgium he returned to Australia in 1919.
PITCHER, Isaac Sydney (1892-1959). Served with the AIF in Gallipoli and received gunshot wounds to the thigh and back in May 1915. Syd was evacuated to hospital in Manchester, England before returning to Australia in November.
TONGE, Charles Geoffrey (1897-1975) Charles joined the M.E.F. at Gallipoli on 30 April 1915 and served there until October. After serving in France he returned to Australia in January 1919
WHITE, Jessie McHardy (1870-1957) During the Dardanelles campaign Jessie White worked on a hospital ship which carried patients from Gallipoli to Lemnos Island. She then transferred to England.
