HUNT, Arthur George (1892-1915)
Born 28 November 1892 at Steels Creek Arthur was the ninth child of Albert Hunt and Barbara Rolfe who had been living at Steels Creek since the early 1880s.
Arthur was a labourer aged 23 when he enlisted 9 October 1914. He embarked with the 3rd Light Horse Regiment Field Ambulance from Melbourne in the Chilka on 2 February 1915. The 3rd Light Horse Regiment played a defensive role throughout the ANZAC campaign and was in reserve when its sister regiments attacked as part of the August offensive. Arthur was transferred to the Dardenelles on the 3 August and was killed only four days later on 7 August 1915. Arthur is buried in the 7th Field Ambulance Cemetery, Gallipoli.
He is commemorated on the Yarra Glen War Memorial, the Yarra Glen Honour Roll and the Steels Creek Honour Roll.
