HUBBARD, Reginald Albert (1895-1976)

Born 8 July 1895 at Steels Creek He was the seventh of fifteen children of William Hubbard and Mary Bell Reilly.

Reg and his older brother Ben enlisted together in January 1915 They were posted with the 13th Light Horse Brigade to Cairo in the Middle East on the 28 May 1915.  Reg was posted to Gallipoli in September 1915 but became critically ill with pneumonia and returned to Australia via Alexandria 4 November 1915.  He returned to the Middle East on 2 May 1916 and transferred to 3rd Light Horse Regiment at Tel El Kebir on the 21 July and then transferred to the 1st signal squadron Anzac Mounted Division.   At Jaffa both Reg and a fellow soldier were wounded, but Reg was awarded the Military medal for his bravery in getting himself and his mate back to safety. Reg returned to Australia disembarking at Melbourne on the 12 July 1919.

Reg  married Edith Mary Cecilia Rutter 8 July 1922 and they had six sons.

Reg enlisted 30 Mar 1942 for service in WWII.

Edith died in 1945 and Reg married Gertrude Mary Malone, known as Ann. They had a son and a daughter. Reg died 12 October 1976 and is buried at Yarra Glen Cemetery.
