St BARNABAS ANGLICAN CHURCH, Steels Creek

In May 1889 the Evelyn Observer reported that the Anglican community at Steels Creek had built their own church, known as St. Barnabas Anglican Church. Concerts were held at Yarra Glen to attract a large gathering to raise funds to equip the church. In July 1900 it was noted in The Remembrancer (a church newsletter of the Yarra Glen district) that attendances were most encouraging and the church was often filled. Regular attendance included people from Dixons Creek and Kinglake.
