GRAND HOTEL, Yarra Glen

In 1905  Rachel Dawson became the licensee of the Grand Hotel and successfully applied for permission to change the name to The Grand Hotel. Through the next thirty years the licensees continued to change frequently except for six years from 1913 to 1919 when it was owned by the Gedye family. Robert (Bert) Lithgow bought the hotel in 1932 for £3050 and transferred  his publicans license from the Yarra Flats Hotel to the Grand Hotel. His son Jack Lithgow and grandson John Lithgow succeeded him in turn and John added a private home at the rear. John renovated the hotel and from the 1980s it became a ten-room country pub with a bar and cafe area, bistro and dining room. In November 2007 Fred Whitlock and Alison Whyte purchased the hotel and owned it until July 2014.
