LORIMER, Samuel (1835-1885)

He was born in Tubbermore, Ireland and arrived in Australia with his brother Robert on the 'Queen of the Seas' on the 10 Sept 1854. Samuel selected 80 acres at Christmas Hills in 1865 (Lot 11) but relinquished it and worked for a time at the Caledonia goldfields, then became storeman at the Flying Squirrel Hotel. He married Mary Anne McPherson on 27 September 1867 and later moved to Dixons Creek to reside on a block of land which had been selected by Mary Anne's brother William. On 24 October 1871 William sold Lot 15D to Samuel. Samuel gradually added another two hundred acres to his holding which eventually became known as Mt Hope. Samuel and Mary Anne raised ten children on this property.
