PITCHER, Isaac Sydney (1892-1959)
Born 27 October 1892 in Norfolk, England.
Youngest of nine children of John Francis Pitcher and Sophia Painter.
Syd migrated to Australia 1912. His brother and sisters also came to Australia at different times. The 1914 Electoral Roll lists him as a poultry farmer at Steels Creek.
Syd enlisted with the AIF on 14 September 1914. He was wounded at the Dardenelles in May 1915 and evacuated to hospital in Manchester, England . He was returned to Australia in November and discharged from the AIF in Melbourne on 3 April 1916.
Syd returned briefly to England in 1918 and married Celia Unthank at Middlesborough in December. The couple arrived in Melbourne in May 1919 and a daughter was born in November. The family moved back to England in 1920 where they remained.
