HUTCHISON, James William (1887-1915)
James was born at Yarra Flats in 1887. He was the son of James Hutchison and Margaret Frazer. The family moved from Gippsland to Yarra Flats before 1885, then to Colac after the birth of James, then back to Gippsland, no doubt following opportunities for employment.
James was working as a labourer when he enlisted at Melbourne on 1 December 1914 and embarked from Melbourne on the 19 February 1915 aboard the Runic with the 5th Battalion 3rd Reinforcements. James was taken on strength on 5 May 1915 to Gallipoli. He was reported missing on the 13 May but it was later found that he had been killed in action and was buried on 8 May 1915. He was 28 years old.
James is buried in the Redoubt Cemetery at Gallipoli.
