SCOTT, William (1837-1889)

William was the seventh child of Joseph and Jane Scott of Steels Creek. He was born at Lamplugh, Cumberland, and travelled to Australia in 1853 with his parents. William selected 80 acres at Steels Creek in company with two of his brothers. The holding was later increased to 800 acres on which he resided and farmed with his brother Anthony. William was a violinist and music teacher. In 1872 he married Mary Jane Hill and they had three daughters. William died of a gunshot wound at the family farm in Steels Creek in June 1889.  The verdict of the inquest was accidental death.
