McKINLEY, James (1895-1917)
James is listed on the Dixons Creek Honor Roll among those associated with the school but none of the McKinley children are in the register. He is also listed on the Yarra Glen Honor Roll as J. McKindley. When young James enlisted in 1915 he was 19 and working as a butcher in Daylesford and his father was living in Queensland. James listed his sister Rebecca as his next of kin and she was also living at Daylesford. The three surviving children remained in Victoria. James fought at Gallipoli in August 1915 and in early 1916 was in France. He was with the 6th Australian Light Trench Mortar Battery in May 1917 when he was killed in action near Arras, France.
