SMEDLEY, James (1888-1960)
James was second child and eldest son of Joseph Smedley and Janet (Jessie) née Wilson. James Smedley enlisted on 30 September 1916 and left Australia three months later on HMAT Medic. He was training in England when his brother Stan was killed in action at Bullecourt in April 1917. James was sent to France in September 1917; he was wounded on two occasions and suffered a series of illnesses. He returned to Australia 24 July 1919. His name is recorded on the Dixons Creek Honor Roll.
In 1922 James married Alma Telfer. He was living in Black Rock when he died in 1969.
