LORIMER, Robert (1828-1877)

Selected 80 acres at Christmas Hills in 1865.  He was born in Tubbermore, Ireland and arrived in Australia with his brother Samuel on the 'Queen of the Seas' on the 10 Sept 1854 as a 26 year old carpenter. Among the first to select land in Christmas Hills he secured Lot 14 in the parish of Sutton in 1865. In the same year he married Martha Rowe (née Lewis). Robert and his brother built a hotel called the Flying Squirrel, strategically placed on the districts main cross road (now called Muir and Ridge Roads), and lived there until his death. The post office was later situated at the hotel which became a focal point for the local community.
